Look out for any careers events which may involve Adult Social Care and Trafford Learning Academy to get an impression of what the work is like from those with first-hand experience.

You can also visit the Question of Care website for an online quiz which gives you an idea of what the work is involves and whether you have the values needed for it.

If your school encourages students to have a work experience opportunity consider a work placement with a social care provider for a taster of the work, for example in a care home, day service or with a care agency. Contact TLA@trafford.gov.uk for details of any potential work experience opportunities in the Trafford area.

Check out the News section for updates on school events taking place in Trafford.

Further Education

Gaining A Levels would enable you to apply for a related degree such a social work or health and social care at university. Alternatively, consider completing a health and social care qualification which may include a work placement so you are gaining experience while you learn. Check out what your local sixth forms and colleges have to offer.

Higher Education

Most universities offer degree programmes relating to health and social care including social work but may offer foundation year courses. Courses usually include work placements which give you experience and opportunities to develop skills for work.

Why not… Consider volunteering alongside your studies to give you further experience and build on your skills and knowledge.

If you have your qualifications but are not sure what kinds of roles there are for you to apply for, check out different roles in Developing Your Career to give you some ideas and Vacancies for where job opportunities are right now.
