Trafford Learning Academy End of Year School Achievements 2022!

It’s been a busy year for Trafford Learning Academy, now in its 3rd year and continuing to upscale the secondary school engagement programme with the aim of inspiring young people to choose a career in adult social care/social work.

For the last academic year, Trafford Learning Academy has promoted the sector to nearly 400 students!

Anne Hollis (Senior Workforce Development Practitioner, pictured) has been leading on this programme and can see the potential in many young people ‘It’s a wonderful moment when a young student responds with a comment which reflects they have the values needed for a career in adult social care. Very few students I speak to have an understanding that roles such as social work for adults even exists so it is understandable that low numbers go on to choose it as a career’.

Many thanks to members of our workforce for co-delivering some of the sessions throughout the year.

Up until 2022, 4 secondary schools in Trafford have offered Health and Social Care as a GCSE level option. The Academy recognised the course as the first important introductory step for the majority of students to the sector. Over the next 2 academic years, another 3 schools are going to include Health and Social Care as a subject option for their Year 10 and 11 students: Wellington High, Lostock High, and Stretford High schools – brilliant news!’’

Work Experience Opportunities for School Students

Trafford Learning Academy has been supporting school students interested in adult social care to experience first hand what working in the sector is like. 13 Year 10 students completed a weeks’ work experience this year, with hopes that the number of students will increase in 2023.

Year 10 students (aged 14-15) are encouraged by their schools to find their own work placements and Trafford Learning Academy is offering to connect students with care services local to their schools in Trafford.
